Not every medical specialty is lucky enough to have a tradition like the Tooth Fairy to draw on. But dentistry does, and that means you can embrace the idea of this positive pixie to engage kids and their parents in oral health.

According to a poll conducted by Delta Dental, 81% of homes in the United States with children ages 6 to 12 experienced a “visit from the Tooth Fairy” in the past year, and about one-third of parents say the Tooth Fairy encourages their child’s imagination while instilling good oral health habits.

National Tooth Fairy Day, which occurs on August 22 and February 28 each year, is the perfect time for your practice to build on the excitement of the Tooth Fairy.

Here are 4 ways to make the most of National Tooth Fairy Day:

  1. Create a post on your social channels wishing everyone a Happy National Tooth Fairy Day and reminding them about the importance of making and keeping a hygiene visit every six months. Include a fun image or photo to capture your audience’s attention.
  2. Give a gift, such as a Tooth Fairy Flex Box, to kids who come into the dental office to honor the week or month of National Tooth Fairy Day.
  3. When kids come into the office, along with giving them a toothbrush, toothpaste and dental floss as part of their monthly visit, create and print out a “Note from the Tooth Fairy” with tips on brushing and flossing.
  4. Send an email to your pediatric patients’ parents on or near National Tooth Fairy Day to celebrate the day and share tips like these to encourage oral health in kids:
  • Have kids brush their teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste.
  • Help children with brushing until they have good enough skills to brush independently.
  • Bring your child to the dentist every 6 months for a routine hygiene visit.
  • Drink tap water that contains fluoride.

National Tooth Fairy Day provides a fun way to promote enthusiasm for oral health for your youngest patients. What better way to start setting them up for healthy smiles for years to come?
