Oral Surgeon and Staff Use CPR and AED to Save Man’s Life

Back in February, members of an oral surgery team saved the life of a a man in West Hartford, Connecticut, who collapsed and turned blue while at work, reported the ADA.

“My team and I are good people first and ready to respond as any Good Samaritan would,” said Joseph Howard, D.D.S., M.D., oral surgeon and owner of Central Connecticut Oral Maxillofacial & Implant Surgery.

Someone from the accounting firm across the hall from Dr. Howard’s practice came running into the office asking for help. Luckily, Dr. Howard and his employees are all CPR-certified and trained in using AED (automated external defibrillator). Dr. Howard and two oral surgery assistants started CPR and then used the office’s AED to deliver a shock. By the time the paramedics arrived, the man was breathing and had a pulse.
